Monté

Both me and Jason has written about monté on our website but I think this is a better place to discuss it (hmm, not that I don't won't you to visit out site:-) Anyway as we both written there are so many horses that are suitable for this disciplin. It could even make them a bit sharper in sulkyraces once they have done a race or two in monté, often proved in Sweden and France. Like us they can be a bit bored doing the same over and over again.

I know one of the complaints about the monté was that it was not fair in how much the horses has earned. Easy solved, do like Sweden and France. Give 20 meter (for exemple) advantage to the horses with less winnings, either with volting or a linestart.

And as was also mentioned it will give the jockeys more opportunities to ride and compete. They keep a strict diet most of the times and just for a few races. So I really hope that the club work on it and give our horses (and jockeys) the chance to do something different and get their fire up again:-)

Hi Jane, nice to see you here.

I really agree with you, nowadays Monte racing has evolved alot especially with the new riding method where the jockey is helping the horse with a more aerodynamic ride and also a better position on the saddle which permits a better balancing on the horse's back. Most of the time as you said Monte races help to handle very difficult horses. however more commonly we are seeing horses moving into monte after a correct carrier in sulky and in France this is the new trend where new horses of al types and sizes are trying this discipline with a lot of success.

I believe that Monte races are in the program of the club and i hope that they are planned in the best way possible to become a fixed feature in our horse racing scene. It is one thing where horse racing can find an opening to develop further in Malta.

However a very important thing would be state before hand the dates when this races will be held due to the fact that in Malta we lack mostly jockeys rather than horses and it might get difficult to set up a whole field of horses.

Last time i have a word with Dr Brincat and Jason Vasallo regarding the Monte Races he was forward to the idea and told us that there was allready a sponsor for such a race .i told him to open the regestration for the next meting so we can evaluate the entries depend from the class they are at the moment,i sugest that evryone who wish to enter his horse in such a race have to register the hose from tomorow 23rd January '09.if there is a satisfactory entrys there must be a race for them too in the comming metings.
